"Records are to me what paints are to an artist. DJing is creating and painting your own picture; it's like an eight and a half by eleven-inch canvas that you're working with. With producing, that canvas is endless."
Gabriel Ortega, otherwise known as Aztech Sol, harbors the art of music inside his own soul, close to his heart where it belongs. In conversation, this is a fact of simplicity that is evident from the expression on his face. In his sets and productions, it is perhaps easier to witness and even feel. With influences that span across the diverse cultural spectrum, Gabriel adheres to the philosophy of making and playing tracks that conquer genre boundaries and are based on the inherent freedom that music possesses.
Throughout the past few years, Gabriel has collaborated with several artists, both in and out of the Wax collective. With Doc Martin, he produced a remix on DJP Records of the track, "Clap Your Hands" by DJ Pierre. In 2001, together with Kenneth Graham as Ashtar Afterhours, "Taeya vs. Gia Marie" was configured and released on Plastic City. Most recently, one of his tracks from the Westbound release, "Tropicasa," was licensed to appear on the Nu-York Nite:Life compilation mixed by Joeski and Onionz, out now on NRK.
